Frequently Asked Questions

Ski & Snowboard Tuning

How often should I have my equipment tuned?

Taking care of your skis or snowboard is crucial. We recommend you visually inspect your equipment before and after each day on the mountain. Your base should look glossy and hydrated; any white streaking or general dryness indicates the need for a wax. Edges should be smooth tip to tail, without any burs or rust that would catch your fingernail. Base damage, cuts/scrapes/imperfections as well as any splitting/cracking along edges or topsheeets require immediate attention.

Harder snow dictates more frequent edging and waxing, softer snow allows longer time between services. Regularly servicing your equipment not only will increase the lifespan, but it greatly improves your riding experience as well.

What is the turn-around time on tuning services?

At Buzz's Boards, we pride ourselves in quick service. Your equipment will always be ready the following morning by opening time. We do offer "to-go" services if you are in a pinch and need help day-of. Keep in mind, heavy duty repairs and epoxy work require leaving equipment for a couple days to allow for proper curing time.

New Prep & Mounting

Does new equipment come tuned from the factory?

The short answer: no. Skis and boards will come with a "factory bevel" -extremely sharp from tip to tail, and will have a "factory wax" on the base. You absolutely need to have a "New Prep" tune completed on your equipment prior to first use. This entails setting the initial edge bevels and waxing with full-quality wax. Without a "New Prep" service on your equipment, you may find your skis/board to be extremely catchy on the edges and sticky/slow on the base.

How does your ski mounting process work?

For ski mounting, we ask you please bring 1 of your ski boots, along with your skis and bindings, to leave with our technicians overnight. For more complicated mounts, AT/Tele/Skin Cutting etc. we ask you please bring all necessary components, and to allow our technicians a slightly longer window of completion than a normal mount. Otherwise, the normal completion time for a mount is overnight.
